At First Kid’s PPEC, we provide our patients with personalized, high-quality care and the best resources to help them heal or improve their current medical conditions. We strive to help children and their families by providing them with the resources they need. Here’s what our PPEC does daily and why our PPEC stands out from the rest.

What is Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC)?

PPEC stands for Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care. A PPEC is a licensed medical facility that operates extended hours of the day and offers more extensive care for children, unlike traditional schools and daycare programs. The purpose of these facilities is to provide medical care to medically complex children who need more attention than can be provided in an outpatient setting or at home.

Our PPEC in Florida provides intensive family support and early childhood education services that help parents, guardians, and caregivers build a strong foundation for their children. A child may be referred to a PPEC facility by their doctor, case manager, or other agency for children.

Entirely covered by Medicaid, our PPECs provide therapy and other medical care, meals, transportation, and more to care for children with disabilities. Providing this support for children, PPECs allow parents to take time for work and education while ensuring their child is under specialized care, getting the therapy, diet, and learning the child needs.

A PPEC is a provider-operated, early intervention program for children ages 0-3 with developmental delays or disabilities. These licensed centers specialize in identifying the needs of parents and children and helping provide the support needed to help kids reach their full potential.

In Florida, PPECs are licensed as Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC) or Licensed Clinic-Infirmaries (C-I). All PPEC centers require licensure with the Florida Department of Health and registration with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

How Our PPEC Stands Out

Our PPEC in Florida is one of the only PPECs that provide pediatric medical care under a physician’s supervision and registered nurses’ direction. We provide additional therapy services in conjunction with the care provided by Registered Nurses.

First Kid’s PPEC is the only physician-owned prescribed pediatric extended care facility in South Florida. Our team of professionals is renowned for their work, and many have 20+ years of experience in their fields. Some disorders and disabilities we treat are:

  • Respiratory disorders such as asthma or cystic fibrosis
  • Neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy or spina bifida
  • Gastrointestinal disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Hematological disorders

First Kid’s PPEC in Florida

At most PPEC centers, children with complex medical conditions can play and learn with other kids in a safe, nurturing environment, allowing their parents to work or attend school to provide for their families. First Kid’s PPEC offers more than just the typical healthcare provided at hospitals or doctor’s offices. We provide medical, nursing, psychosocial, developmental, educational therapies, playtime, meals, and snacks.

Along with administrative staff and your child’s physician, we have several Registered Nurses who work as a team to provide the best medical, developmental and educational care for your child every day.

Children who need skilled nursing services on a daily or weekly basis often need licensed physicians to work with them regularly. That’s why we are proud to be one of the nation’s only physician-owned and operated PPECs.
