What is a Special Needs Daycare?
A Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) center allows Medicaid-eligible children from birth through age 20 with medically-complex conditions to receive continual medical care in a non-residential setting. If approved for this care, children can attend a PPEC up to a maximum of 12 hours per day while receiving nursing services, personal care, developmental therapies, and caregiver training.
A PPEC center is like a special needs daycare, designed to give children with complex medical conditions (also known as “special needs”) quality medical care in the least restrictive environment possible. This allows children to thrive as well as their parents.
For parents of children with complex medical needs, the challenge of finding quality child care can be overwhelming. For many of these parents, leaving their jobs to be full-time caretakers is not an option. They need income and healthcare benefits to help offset the costs of caring for a child with complex medical conditions.
At most special needs daycare centers, children with complex medical conditions can play and learn with other kids in a safe, nurturing environment, allowing their parents to work and/or attend school so they can provide for their families. First Kid’s PPEC offers more than just the typical healthcare provided at hospitals or doctor’s offices. We provide medical, nursing, psychosocial, developmental, and educational therapies along with playtime, meals, and snacks.
Along with administrative staff and your child’s physician, we have several Registered Nurses who work as a team to provide the best medical, developmental and educational care for your child every day.
Children who need skilled nursing services on a daily or weekly basis often need licensed physicians to work with them on a regular basis too. That’s why we are proud to be one of the only physician-owned and operated PPECs in the nation.

Respiratory Therapy
Our therapy and nursing teams guide your child through a set of respiratory exercises to promote, recover, and enhance lung functionality.
Physical Therapy
Our licensed physical therapists work with your child to promote, maintain, or restore health leveraging a variety of state-of-the-art exercises and techniques.
Occupational Therapy
Our licensed occupational therapists help your child develop, recover, improve, as well as maintain the skills needed for daily living.
